  • The Visa Office of Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu will open on 28th December 2015. The office will officially provide services including Visa application, Notarization, Authentication of documents and China passport application. For the details of application procedure, please see the website of the Consulate General (http://kotakinabalu.china-consulate.gov.cn/eng/lsfw_2/)
  • The Chinese consulate general in Kota Kinabalu hold jurisdiction over the state of Sabah and Labuan only. Applications from states other than listed above will not be accepted.

Notice on the Latest Visa Policies for Virtual APEC Business Travel Card Holders

For the convenience of the business exchange in Asia-Pacific region, effective from May 1st, 2023,  holders of valid virtual APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) could enter China with no need to apply for visas.

Before May 1st, 2023, virtual ABTC holders still need to apply for a new visa to enter China. For detailed requirements, please contact the Consulate General of People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu.

Notice of Restoration of Phone Services and Additional Inquiry Line

As mentioned, Phone line 088-385481 to the Consular Office has now been restored. To improve service quality, the Consular Office could be also reached with 014-3681380 at present. The inquiry hours would be 9:30 am to 11:30 am; 14:30 pm to 16:30 pm (Weekdays).  

If all lines were unavailable at the moment, the applicants are suggested to send emails to the address kk@csm.mfa.gov.cn for the inquiry.

Notice on Exemption of Fingerprinting for Certain Visa Applicants

According to the working arrangement, from today until 31 December 2023, Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu  will exempt the fingerprints of eligible visa applicants for one or two entries in the categories of M/L/Q2/G/C visas.

Important Notice (24-11-2023)

Notice on adjustments to the visa policy for Malaysian citizens traveling to China

To further promote people-to-people exchanges between China and Malaysia, from 0:00(Beijing time) on December 1, 2023 to 24:00 (Beijing time) on November 30, 2024, the Chinese government will implement 15-day visa free policy for Malaysian citizens holding ordinary passport who enter China for business, tourism, family visit and transit purposes. Those who do not meet the purposes of visit and time limit for 15-day visa free policy are still required to apply for visas to China.

Visas which have been issued to Malaysian citizens are still valid. Visa applications that have been submitted before will be processed normally.

Notice on Cancellation of Online Appointment for Visa Application

To further facilitate foreign citizens to apply for visas to China, from November 24, 2023, theConsulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu will cancel the online appointment for China visa application. Applicants can walk in the Consular Affairs Office of Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu without online appointment to apply for visas with relevant documents. Please follow the application steps below:

  1. Fill out the visa application form online (https://cova.cs.mfa.gov.cn),  download and print out the full application form(7 pages in total, preferable double sided), and sign the confirmation page. All applicants are required to complete the online application form at least one working day prior to visiting the Consular Affairs Office for visa application processing.
  2. Visit the Consular Affairs  office  to submit physical visa application documents in person (see How to Apply Visa to China). Kind reminders: After cancellation of online appointment, there might be more applicants on-site during peak hours. Applicants are recommended to arrange their time for submission according to their travel schedule. Upon entering the visa office, please follow the instructions of the staff for security screening and queue number pickup. Applicants who have completed online appointments before will be given priority for submitting their documents within the corresponding time slot at the appointment date by presenting the appointment confirmation page upon arrival.

Notice on Reduction of Visa Fees

For the convenience of traveling between China and foreign countries, the Consulate General of the People’ s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu will reduce visa fees from December 11, 2023 to December 31, 2024. The revised visa fee schedule is attached.

Visa applications submitted before December 11, 2023 will be charged according to the original visa fee schedule.
